Imagine this scenario. Your checking your artist Facebook or Twitter account and you get this message “Hey, just found your stuff online, nice sounds”.
It’s always nice to hear from a new fan, but here are four things you should do to help turn their initial message into a full on relationship:
1) Say hello! It sounds simple but say hi and thanks for taking the time to drop you a note. Tell them that you appreciate their comments.
2) Ask them where they are located. Ask what type of music they like and who there are favourite artists are. Get a conversation going.
3) Ask where they heard about you. See which avenues are generating new listeners: Is it YouTube? Spotify algorithmic discovery or a playlist? Personal recommendation? Did they see you at an open mic spot? With this info you can double down on the stuff that is generating you the most ‘new ears’.
4) Get them to stay in touch. Get them to sign up to your mailing list, and if your mailing list has a welcome sequence you can bring them up to speed with your story so far through a series of welcome emails.
