At the start of 2020, here are some thoughts on Instagram
1) Recent research shows that the average length of an Instagram caption has doubled since 2016 and it’s now averaging about 65 – 70 words. The rule here seems to be that Instagram as a platform is maturing.
It’s becoming less of a ‘pretty pictures’ destination and more of a place to tell stories and engage with your audience. To do that well requires longer captions so make sure you’re doing the same.
2) I’ve you’ve updated the Instagram app recently you’ll notice that the IGTV button has disappeared from the top of the homescreen. The removal of the button possibly means is that IGTV a little used feature and long form video content is being ‘ relegated’ on the platform.
This isn’t great news if like me you’re a regular uploader to IGTV to not only show off your video content but also include that all important link! We’ll have to see what happens here.
In other news I’ve seen a suggestion of late that carousel posts (those with multiple images posts) work well. Why not give them a try and see if they work better at getting engagement than using just using just the one image.
Got any questions about this post or how you can better market yourself?
