Physical product such as CDs are still a vital money maker for the independent musician. Even modest sales at a gig can be the best way to make money from your music.
The trouble is CD sales are decreasing so what steps can you take to make sure that your fans take the plunge and part with their cash? Nick Moorhead has written a good article on the Sonicbids website which gives some very good tips. In summary, here are the main pointers
- Have a good cover
- Make it limited edition
- Give it value over and above the digital version (bonus tracks etc)
- Bundle it with other merch to add value and more of an essential purchase
- Have good liner notes or make it a great product to touch, feel, read etc.
Are you going to do this with YOUR next CD?
