Three Important Branding Lessons

Music marketing strategist Tyler Allen has written a good article over on Sonicbids regarding strategies to use/think about to help improve your branding.  As always, you should read the article but here are the main points:

1) Choose your band name wisely, it’s part of your brand.  If your band name is something that is going to put off venues, agents, press etc you could be setting yourself up to fail.  Something which might be considered offensive, bad taste, banal etc. will seem like a fun thing to do at the time but it could impact your long term development. "Ladies and gentlemen,,,PEN CAP CHEW!". Doesn't quite have the same ring does it.

2) Use collaborations and any other opportunities which puts you in front of the right audience demographic for your music.

3) Crossover.  Don’t be afraid to have occasional skirmishes into a genre which compliments your own.
