As a DIY artist, it will help your marketing if you can clearly sum up your music, songs, and your attitude into just a single sentence. I call this sentence your “poster pitch”, the information that accompanies your name on a gig poster which informs people about yourself and your music.

A gig poster, yesterday,
The poster pitch is a snappy sentence that describes what you do and invites people who haven’t heard of you before to check you out.
Here are a couple of examples
“Dirty rock and roll with a terrific techno twist”
“Out of control girl band, not for the faint hearted”
“Heartrending folk for the Facebook generation”
It should be something that describes your music and ethos. It could even describe how you differ from the competition. Once you have one, stick your pitch on your posters and in your social media bios. If it’s short enough you can even incorporate it into your logo!
Takeaway Tip
If you can create a snappy pitch which describes your music and your “mantra”, you know you’re heading in the right direction when it comes to marketing your music.
