Common Social Media Mistake You Can Rectify NOW!

Entrepreneur magazine has recently written an article about the most common mistakes businesses make on social media.  Guess what, you’re a business too so you can take some tips from this.  Here’s my take on the article with suggestions as to how to rectify each mistake:

1) You continually post the same type of content.

Make sure you vary the content you post.  Post your music, post links to articles on your website, self created memes, videos, links to web articles which enhance your brand.  Vary it up.

2) Not sending your fans to your website

Create ‘website only’ articles and content that can only be viewed on your website, send your fans over there and you can get them to sign up to your mailing list whilst they are there!.

Be careful you don’t make these mistakes when you are using social media.

3) Not engaging with fans.

If they make any comment or response, always reply back.

4) Being ‘inauthentic’.

Unless you really *are* the big rock and roller, don’t push your luck pretending to be one.  Stay true to yourself.

5)  Not focusing on your fans.

Have your audience in mind when you post; are they going to like/appreciate/enjoy what you are posting?

6) Too much of the hard sell.

Remember, 80% fun, 20% sales.

7) Thinking social media will make you rich/famous overnight.

It won’t.  Think ‘one fan at a time’. You should be in it for the long haul.

8) You are not forging relationships.

Social media is all about building relationships and engaging with fans and influencers.

9) Overposting.

3-5 times a day is fine on Twitter, once a day for Facebook. 1.5 times a day for Instagram.
